Pinhão is a wine-growing village located on the right bank of the Douro River, in the heart of the Douro Wine Region, the oldest Demarcated Wine Region, in Portugal and in the world, and we all know that this amounts to delights and delights for the senses. It is where you can find some of the most important Quintas producing Port Wine. As if that were not enough, Pinhão has a magnificent and privileged view over the “enchanted” valley of the Douro, where one of the most imposing viewpoints in the region is located: the Miradouro de Casal de Loivos. Being the highest point of Pinhão, it offers a breathtaking view, where the Douro River merges with the green slopes, in a visual framework of unforgettable precision and beauty.
But not only landscapes live in Pinhão. Just remember that it is in this village that one of the most beautiful railway stations in Portugal is located - the Pinhão station. Built in the 19th century, it is an ode to Port Wine, the region's livelihood. We could spend hours here describing what you can only feel if you visit it: its 24 panels of 3047 tiles that decorate it represent the entire wine production process, from the Harvest to the transport of Port Wine in Rabelo Boats to the cellars, located in Vila Nova de Gaia.
The tile panels have been restored and remain perfect. In addition, at this station a wine shop and a museum center were opened to the public that exhibits some of the artefacts used in the rural life of the “Men” from Douro.
And if you have the opportunity, after this magnificent tour of Pinhão, take the train journey along the Douro line to Pocinho, a geographically close location, and this way you will get to know the Douro in all its splendor. You certainly won't regret it!
